This project work is focused on determining how to establish a functioning cooperative society. It focused on the reasons for joining a cooperative society, the elements that influence the establishment of a cooperative society, and the ten steps to establishing a functioning cooperative society.
A cooperative is an autonomous association of individuals who have voluntarily joined together to achieve their common economic, social, and cultural needs and ambitions through a jointly owned and democratically run enterprise.
Creating a viable co-operative society allows the society to last longer and function more effectively and efficiently. The cooperative movement began with its creation.
In truth, cooperatives are as old as man. One Igbo-man has a proverb that adds to this: “When a man is in trouble, he seeks help from another; when an animal is, she cannot turn to another.”
