Abstract

The study looked at how biology instruction affected the professional development of secondary school students. This study was important due to a lack of instructional materials for teaching biology in secondary schools.

To generate the study’s sample, four hundred kids from Enugu North Education Zone were picked at random from public schools in Enugu State. A questionnaire was used to collect data for analysis.

The research questions were answered, and hypotheses were assessed via chi-square. The findings demonstrated that the attributes of a biology teacher have a substantial impact on the influence of biology study on professional growth, as well as students’ attitudes towards the effect of biology study on professional development, which affects their academic progress.

Based on the findings of this study, the researcher recommends that teachers, school authorities, and the Nigerian government at all levels promote the effective effect of biology education on professional growth.

By providing the necessary equipment and facilities, such as seating, instructional media, a comfortable classroom, and good textbooks. Biology textbooks should be free and accessible to all students at all secondary levels of education.
