ABSTRACT

This project consists of five chapters, each of which contains various information regarding the project. In chapter one, the researcher introduced and explained the study’s background, as well as how it covers the case study of PZ Aba in Abia state. The researcher reviews the problem statement, the organisation, the study’s purpose, and the study’s importance. The hypothesis was tested to confirm the Ho and Hi. The second chapter contains a literature review, which explains what the topic is about. The meaning of the term (containerisation) is significant, as are the many types of containers used in packaging strategies. In Chapter 3, we learnt about research technique. The population was determined to provide the sample size. Sources of data collected: The researcher uses both primary and secondary data to gather information for his study. The fourth chapter presents the data and analyses the findings. The data presentation was based on the impact of containerisation on transportation and distribution. A case study on PZ Plc Aba. The outcome was analysed using percentages, while the hypothesis was evaluated using the chi-square technique at a 5% level of significance. We tested the following hypothesis. Ho: Containerising a goods attracts a customer. Hi: Containerisation of a product does not entice buyers. Last but not least, Chapter 5 of the paper includes the introduction, summary, recommendation, and conclusion, as well as a bibliography, a well-written letter to the organisation, and the questionnaire.

Chapter one

Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Containerisation has increased dramatically over the last few decades, but Nigerian ports and their supporting container distribution networks have struggled to grow capacity to keep up. PZ was formed as a trade post called West African Merchants.

In Sierra Leone, two partners, George Peterson from England and George Zochonics from Greece, began by shipping palm oil and other produce, such as palm kernels, cocoa, groundnut, and seed cotton, as well as animal hides and skins, to the United Kingdom and returning goods from England, such as clothes from Manchester.

In 1884, Peterson and Zochonics organised the company as Paterson Zochonic (PZ). PZ was formed in Nigeria in 1899 in Lagos and eventually expanded to other branches throughout the states.

The company currently manufactures and distributes over 30 brands of products across its global network, including soaps and other personal care items such as shampoo, baby powder, detergents and cleaners, olive oil, packaging material, medications, and so on.

PZ has the most personnel in various branches, particularly the Aba branch, which has qualified people, facilitating organisational expansion; they also have a large number of vehicles for convenient distribution and conveyance of raw materials for production. They also have a reliable machine for consistent production.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Containerisation is extremely important and useful in the marketing of industrial goods; thus, it is frequently referred to as the nearest company’s salesperson. There are currently issues with containerisation in the transportation and distribution of industrial goods and services.

Increasing system-wide container capacity is quite tough. For one container flow, a number of connected capacity factors are derived from various stakeholders such as ports, railroads, truck carriers, and steamship lines.

While the problem looks to be a straightforward application of Goldratt’s notion of constraints (Goldratt 1997; Ox 2004), there are complicated aspects.

Container flows can be recognised as drum (i.e. primary, pace setting) restrictions, but their management entails a complex of interconnected parameters controlled by stakeholders.

The challenges are exacerbated by unforeseen changes in security requirements, terrorist activity, military deployment (Thomchick 1993), labour strikes, and severe weather.

1.3 PURPOSES OF THE STUDY

It is vital to examine or recognise the social and psychological past in order to grasp what we are attempting to do in the present and do better in the future.

The study will identify marketing possibilities, difficulties, and prospects for marketers looking to improve their packaging through repeat purchases. The goal of this study survey is to examine how to provide optimal customer service while minimising costs.

1.4 Significance of the Study

The investigation will encompass Aba, Abia State, Owerri, and all of Nigeria’s eastern states, as well as all companies that employ containerised products, such as PZ Plc, which serves practically the entire Nigerian market.

The survey also includes their whole product consumer base, both in urban and rural settings. As a result, the study will focus solely on the Aba consumer market.
