IMPACT OF EFCC IN FIGHTING CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA
Abstract
Nigeria is currently dealing with a slew of corrupt concerns that threaten the survival of her states and economy. Because of the infectious nature of this phenomenon, addressing it has continually proven futile. Although this threat exists to differing degrees in different countries and at different times.
It affects countries in the Global North and Global South in different ways. Nigeria is no exception to this rule. As a result, the problem causes economic backwardness, political instability, social insecurity, infrastructure decay, unaccountability, violation of the rule of law, and so on. Efforts to control it in Nigeria have met with a number of setbacks.
However, with the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to manage it, some commendable progress has been made. This study evaluated the EFCC and the issues of managing corruption in Nigeria using primary data.
Given that corruption emerges in practically every known social organisation and has a transitory as well as a worldwide web of interconnectedness, an integrative theoretical approach was applied in this explanation.
The findings show that the Commission has a slew of obstacles, including: power elite interfering in its actions; an unwholesome judicial procedure; lax anti-graft laws; job instability for its Chairperson, and so on.
