ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to analyse how employee welfare services have affected Nigerian businesses. There are a total of five chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the introduction, which provides the study’s context by introducing the topic and stating the problem. The study’s goals, research citations, importance, scope, limits, and terminology were covered. Chapter 2 provides a comprehensive literature overview on the subject of research. Additionally, our respondents and data collection procedures were detailed in chapter three of the research design and methodology. Based on the information gathered and examined in Chapter 4, the researcher concluded that Emenite co. ltd.’s management is unconcerned with the delivery of social services. Because of this, the workers’ already low productivity took a nosedive. In order to keep workers from going on strike or participating in other forms of industrial action, the research suggests that the company’s services to them should be reviewed and enhanced.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Background of the Study
Providing employees with welfare services has been increasingly common in the last 20 years. Every year, new forms of aid are introduced, and union collective bargaining contracts include benefits just as much as they do direct payments. There are goals to be reached in every company, whether it’s a public or private one.
The level of success in reaching the organization’s objectives determines the organization’s viability if it is profit-driven. How wisely the organisation manages its human and material resources will also determine whether or not the objectives are achieved.
Make money if they are well-managed; lose money if they aren’t. Welfare services, which provide incentives and rewards to workers, are the means by which this is achieved.
Employers have discovered that prioritising the well-being of their employees is the key to obtaining complete commitment and cooperation from them in order to achieve organisational objectives.
with light of this finding, numerous companies have implemented welfare service programs with the firm conviction that such initiatives will boost morale among workers.
It wasn’t until the Elizabethan Poor Law Act in 1988 that assistance programs began to take shape. Each parish should designate an overseer of the poor to help those who are able to work and those who are unable to do so, and each parish should impose a local rate to cover the costs.
The Act of Settlement of 162 further solidified this provision by establishing that every individual was obligated by law to receive assistance from their parish of settlement in the event of need.
As a result, a system of removing individuals in need to the parish settlement was initiated. The British parliament was utterly unwilling to attempt to strengthen these provisions throughout the poor law’s tumultuous history in the 17th and 18th centuries, when local government machinery was weak and there was no proper central authority to enforce standards.
As the Great Depression raged on, the federal government made its first broad effort at income maintenance with the passage of the Social Security Act of 1953. Two sets of programs were set up by the Act.
(a) Programs that provide financial assistance to individuals based on their past earnings and tax contributions; they include retirement, survivorship, disability, and unemployment insurance.
(b) Income support programs run by the government that are available to low-income families, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and those who are blind or visually impaired.
To be eligible for full-time payments from social insurance programs, one must have a record of earnings and be actively participating in the labour force. Therefore, the people who really need it might not get it.
