IMPACT OF INFECTIOUS EPIDEMIC ON SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the empirical impact of an infectious epidemic on small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria, using coronavirus illness as a case study.
The goals of this study were to assess the prevalence of coronavirus disease in Nigeria and to analyse the impact of coronavirus disease on the survival of small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria.
The study’s focus is on Nigerian business owners, and the infectious illness transmission mechanism theory serves as a framework. The research design for this study is a survey, and the demographic addressed is all business owners across the country.
400 business owners were chosen as the sample size, and the cluster sampling technique was used. This study’s instrument is a questionnaire. Data were acquired from original sources.
The data analysis revealed that the level of coronavirus disease in Nigeria is average when compared to other nations, and that coronavirus sickness has an impact on the survival of small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria.
Following the findings, it was recommended that measures be devised to slow the spread of the virus and a vaccine be developed to prevent further reliance on the smooth operations of small and medium-sized business activities, and that business owners devise a way to continue their business by moving it online. The study shows that coronavirus illness has a negative impact on small and medium-sized business operations.
