IMPACT OF MARKETING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN ENUGU STATE
Chapter one
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Tourism is described as the activity of travelling under pressure, particularly for holidays, excursions, hotels, and other tourist activities.
Also, tourism is the sum of the phenomenon and relationships that result from non-residents’ travel and study insofar as they do not lead to permanent residence and are not charged with an earning activity.
Tourism is an industry that is built on trips made by people both within and outside of the country for the aim of relaxing, revisiting rest, and participating in interesting nontraditional activities. Tourist traffic places are typically placed outside of the tourist’s preferred and working locations.
Tourism occurs when individuals travel outside of their usual residence to other locations inside the country. On the other hand, tourism occurs when people travel to a country that they do not regularly visit and that is a separate, national unit with its own political and economic structure.
They are involved with international tourism. In determining the impact of marketing on tourism development, Philips Kotler refers to marketing as a managerial process that identifies, anticipates, and supplies customer needs efficiently and profitably. In fact, marketing, like other management functions, has numerous contributions to make in tourism development.
Krippendoff described market tourism as the systematic and coordinated implementation of business policies by tourist undertakings, whether state-owned or not, at the local, regional, national, and worldwide levels to meet the demands of identifiable consumer groups while achieving an appropriate return.
The first piece of equipment for tourist planning is market knowledge, which entails researching people and their wants, i.e., sky tourism facilities should be organised primarily to fulfil the needs of guests or users.
The market’s impact is understood to involve the initial estimate of customer demand, rather than simply supplying demand when it occurs.
1.2 Statement of the Problems.
Tourism’s expansion and development are not without challenges. The first is the use of land, which occurs when a large portion of a tourist site is dedicated to enable land and other forms of agriculture. There may be a tension between the demands that tourism places on the countryside for land for its services.
This necessitates the availability of land areas, as well as the resolution of issues with the equitable and acceptable location of scale resources.
Secondary, there may be a conflict between visitor demand and the interests of residents of a town or region. The greater the number of visitors, the greater the danger of inconvenience or loss of amenity and facility for individuals living in the town or region.
Tourism entails the introduction of alien components into the destination, which may cause animosity; in other words, tourism may predict a population explosion. It is an important test for tourist organisations to educate the local populace.
Third, tourism is a seasonal activity, as found throughout this study; tourist centres have particular days or demands, as well as peak periods of visitation.
Tourism has relatively few continuities throughout the year, and the majority of its facilities are employed actively for less than half the time. This refers to a wasteful use of resources and may result in seasonal unemployment, which is both an economic and a social problem.
Fourth, another issue is the need for promotion and advertising to change some of our people’s conventional attitudes in an aggressive culture and entice them out of the conservatism to which they have been entrusted.
The public needs to be relaxed and understand what tourism is all about. Many individuals are unaware of some of the state’s tourist attractions.
