ABSTRACT
This study examines the effects of packaging on the storage and distribution of items in an organisation, with a focus on the role of packaging in improving storage and distribution effectiveness in manufacturing organisations. An overview of the study’s concerns was provided, including insufficient packaging, storage and distribution material/facilities, and company mobility in order to assess the influence of packing on goods storage and distribution. In his efforts to find solutions to these challenges, he carefully considered the study’s relevance and objectives. The research effort also addresses study design and methodology, with various data relevant to this research work being collected, presented, and assessed.
Chapter one
Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
It is critical to note that one of the most important aspects that organisations should pay adequate attention to after production is the packaging of various products, objects, and substances in suitable containers for protection against harm/damages, which will aid in storing products in a condition for future use and distributing such products at a reduced risk/damage tendency.
The incapacity of enterprises to assess the impact of packaging on the storage and distribution of goods posed a risk to debt studies, with a focus on Star Paper Mill Aba.
A brief history of the company
Chief Nnanna Kalu created Star Paper Mill Aba. The company was founded in 1977, with a plant in Aba that produces school exercise books and a variety of stationery items.
It has an installed capacity of 25,000 metric tonnes per year, which equates to 38 million exercise books, as well as 152 million envelopes of paper and foolscap fly.
The current percentage utilisation is approximately 73%. The second factory was opened in 1984 as a waste paper recycling plant with an installed capacity of 10 metric tonnes of tissue paper in jumbo rolls per day. In 1992, a new paper mill was erected with a capacity of 15 metric tonnes of tissue per day.
Currently, the Owerrinta factory has a total capacity of 60 metric tonnes per day. This plant uses waste paper and paper off-cuts as its primary raw materials, accounting for 90% of the facility’s volume and naira value requirements from local sources.
In the plant, there is a toilet roll production line that uses the jumbo reel as an import and produces 140,000,000 toilet rolls and paper napkins each year.
These effectively establish the company as Nigeria’s leading maker of toilet paper and tissue goods, having marketing channels across the country.
