IMPACT OF STATE BROADCASTING MEDIA ON VOTERS MOBILIZATION DURING ELECTION
Abstract
The study of Ibadan North Local Government examines the impact of radio on electorate mobilization for elections. Without a doubt, mass media, particularly radio, plays a significant role in societal political and socioeconomic development. Because of the accessibility of radio signals in every nook and cranny of society, it is extremely useful in educating, enlightening, and mobilizing voters for political participation.
The survey research method was used, along with 100 copies of the questionnaire, which were printed and distributed to respondents in Ibadan North local government, with 90 copies returned. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (tables, frequency, and percentage method), and the findings revealed that mass media, particularly radio,
provides an avenue for illiterate citizens to obtain information about political activities, that it educates and sensitizes masses on various activities such as registration, how to handle voter’s cards, what to wear during election, how to participate in political rally and campaign, to the activities on election day, and coverage of electorate
