IMPACT OF SUPERVISION ON TEACHERS PERFORMANCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
ABSTRACT
This study aims to determine the function of supervision in improving efficiency in primary school teaching and instruction in the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Questionnaires were utilized in the data collection process.
The findings demonstrated that monitoring aids in promoting the student’s education. In addition, it contributes to the school curriculum. Recommendations were also made, such that instructors should always arrive early to school to supervise students in the morning, and that headmasters and headmistresses should observe each teacher with students while they conduct their morning duties.
This study found that external supervisors should inspect the entire school environment, not only the teachers. Parents were also advised to schedule meetings with instructors to discuss the anticipated issues their children will face at school.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Since the dawn of time, supervision has improved the teaching and learning activities in primary schools. During the colonial era, supervision provided the foundation for outstanding performance in primary schools, which was attributed to regular and relevant supervision by inspectors.
Elementary schools, as the cornerstone of learning and instruction, are in severe need of monitoring throughout the school year; it is no wonder that individuals today link their poor academic achievement to the lack of adequate supervision in primary schools.
Primary school supervision should be increased because the students are in their formative years. Today, a greater proportion of elementary school instructors are experienced and professional; nonetheless, despite possessing advanced teaching credentials, they do not execute to the level expected.
These categorized as informative will be subject to regular oversight so that they do not err in their duty of instructing children and establishing the groundwork for future higher education. The new regulation stipulates that the minimal learning requirement in elementary schools.
The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) is a new development; therefore, the majority of teachers in primary schools have obtained the Nigeria certificate in education (NCE) by now, but never perform to expectations in primary school teaching.
Only a few primary school teachers still hold the teacher grade II certificate in an effort to promote efficiency in teaching and instruction in primary schools, so as to improve the academic performance of primary school pupils. It is also anticipated that if elementary school supervision is increased, teachers will fulfill their societal responsibilities as expected (curricular activities).
EXPRESSION OF THE PROBLEM
The different issues that lack of supervision has brought to teaching and learning in elementary schools include ineffective instruction and instructional programming. If schools are not routinely monitored. The teachers will not be able to teach successfully in the classroom because they will not prepare their lesson notes with sufficient care.
The provision of adequate, relevant, and appealing teaching aids will be curtailed; in a well-supervised environment, some teachers may be prone to laziness and poor student performance. Effective coordination and control of the school system will improve the academic environment.
Without this, the students will be bored within the school environment, and the instruction given to them will be ineffective. Moreover, their teachers will be unable to improve the curriculum, enhance planning of services and workshops or seminars for the teachers in the primary school, or conduct workshops or seminars for the teachers.
The aims and objectives of primary school education cannot be attained without control mechanisms such as good e-evaluation, which contributes to the entire development of students.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
It is a well-known truth that continual and thorough supervision can improve teaching and learning in elementary schools; hence, education officers will frequently identify and fix teacher errors. When a teacher fails to maintain an up-to-date record of his or her work. However, if this is discovered by an education officer, the instructor in question may be questioned for neglect of study. Since monitoring focuses on the teacher’s appearance, performance, and other relevant issues, the immediate impact of this query will be a shift in the teacher’s attitude about work. In addition, the government and school authorities will discover how to improve the education of students through this study. When an educational officer, typically an external supervisor, visits a school, he/she makes a note of the school’s condition and forwards it to the appropriate quarters with recommendations; many of the recommendations would help to improve the standard of the school, which may pertain to infrastructure, instructional materials, and so on. Moreover, supervision involves a great deal of cross-fertilization of ideas discussion, and from this exchange of ideas, the best approach to pursue would be discussed among the teachers; this discussion would center on the enhancement of the teaching and learning environment. Supervision enables us to identify specific abilities or qualities possessed by instructors in the primary schools in Egor Local Government, hence enhancing efficiency.
