Chapter one
Background Of The Study
Mass media communications are ones that are addressed at a big number of people using an electronic medium to disseminate information, knowledge, and entertainment to a diverse, occasionally homogeneous but primarily heterogeneous audience.
For any human civilisation, the successful conduct of its internal and external affairs is heavily dependent on the amount to which information is dispersed and exchanged; the need for knowledge is so great that man cannot operate or determine the course of his life without communication (Dickson, 2005).
In light of this, the media’s crucial function is captured by its impulsive inclination to steer and redirect the direction of altitudinal change while also shaping public perception of societal issues.
