INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Every organisation, whether public or private, must prioritise motivation. Motivation is critical to every organization’s success. All organisations, whether public or private, face the issue of motivation. (Chintallo and Mahadeo, (2013).
According to Chaudhary & Sharma (2012) fundamentally, motivation word is derived from “motive”. The term “motive” refers to people’s needs, wants, and desires.
So, employee motivation refers to the process by which an organisation inspires its employees through awards, bonuses, and other incentives to achieve organisational goals.
Employee motivation is critical to the success of any business or organisation. Human resources are critical to the success, productivity, and performance of any business.
Motivation is the key to creating an enabling atmosphere where optimal performance is achievable. This raises the question of how we can ensure that individual motivation is at its highest inside the organisation or workplace (Chapman, 2004).
Every employee or worker has his or her own set of motives and personal incentives that encourage him or her to work hard or not as the case may be. Some people are motivated by recognition
while others are driven by financial incentives. Whatever, the kind of employee motivation, the key to boosting that motivation as an employer, knows the incentives (Mc Coy, 2000).
Employee incentive schemes go a long way towards making employees feel valued, cared for, and worthwhile. This can significantly improve staff motivation across the board. The best thing about motivation is that it is individualised because such programmes are designed to meet the needs and desires of the employee.
Motivation not only encourages effective work, but it also demonstrates how much the organisation values its personnel. Employee motivation can have a significant impact on productivity and performance.
According to the literature on the issue, the primary goal of implementing employee motivational programmes is to boost employee motivation, and productivity will certainly follow (Ryan, 2011).
Employee motivation enhances workplace harmony and improves employee performance. It is the key to long-term success for the organisation. Motivated employees indicate staff retention and company loyalty, which in the near term leads to business growth and development (Jishi, 2009).
