INCENTIVE SCHEMES FOR ENHANCEMENT OF WORKERS PRODUCTIVITY IN THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR
Abstract
Organizations distribute a large number of rewards to their workers in the forms of promotion, bonuses fringe benefits and status symbol as incentives for the enhancement of workers productivity. This study has found out that incentive schemes if properly established and executed in the following schemes, i.e good salary that is competitive with what obtains in the industry, free medical care, subsidised housing rents, various kinds of bonuses and pension schemes for the workers at retirement enhances workers productivity. Also observed from the study, was that reasonable good training schemes, helps in enhancing workers productivity by motivating then to improve on their skills and abilities, thus better equipped for their jobs both in terms of quality and quantity of work efficiency and effectiveness. The study also discovered that there is preponderance of financial incentive schemes, it is therefore recommended that management should try and establish an alternative schemes that will be an effective substitute to financial incentive schemes in enhancing workers productivity. Managers should personally be involved with their workers so that they learn the ways of motivating them and to continuously improve on the job training schemes for workers. Finally, workers should be encouraged to be part owners of the company where they work to consolidate on their interest and dedication to the work so that productivity is enhanced
