INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background for the Study

Leadership is a concept that has evolved over time in successful relationships between groups and society as a whole. An organization’s ability to achieve its goals is determined by the direct inducement it receives.

Organisations exist to provide services in society for the benefit of humanity; individuals must be employed in order to be guided towards the achievement of organisational goals; and leaders are required. He needs to be communicative in order to coordinate the affairs of the people and the organisation.

In fact, leaders guarantee that subordinates’ behaviours are focused towards achieving the organization’s goals. This can only be accomplished by creating an enabling atmosphere for the subordinate to meet their needs.

Good leadership may inspire and motivate their subordinates to improve their performance. There is no true claim that leadership entails controlling all operations in an organisation. This study examines the impact of leadership style on the innovation of SMEs in Lagos state.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Many industries today, whether profit-oriented or social, rely on effective management and control. Workers are difficult to manage, and managing them effectively is a huge problem.

Good leadership requires eliciting the best performance from their subordinates. Leadership should direct their subordinates’ conduct towards the achievement of the organization’s goals.

This can be accomplished by giving the subordinate with basic necessities. Workers will improve their performance within the organisation.

However, it is not worth noting that most leaders do not frequently encourage their subordinates in organisations; a charismatic leadership style to manage and guide the affairs of employees in the organisation for an in-depth examination.

1.4 Objectives of the Study

Most management literature includes the topic of leadership. This is because it has attracted a large number of management science exports. This research will also make significant contributions to the burgeoning literature in the field. Specifically, this study will achieve the following objectives:

1) Improve people’s awareness of leadership as an important concept in organisational behaviour and management.

2) To examine the numerous difficulties that leaders face in their organisations and propose solutions to them.

3) Examine the relationship between leadership style and employee performance.

4) To investigate the relationship between leadership style and employee performance.

5) To assess the quality of leadership required in the organisation.

1.4 Research Questions.

The research question for the study is as follows.

Does the leadership style used by the leaders motivate their subordinates to perform?

Does workers’ impression of their bosses drive them to perform better?

Does worker satisfaction with the boss’s leadership style boost SMEs’ growth?

Does your satisfaction with your leadership style encourage staff development and training to help SMEs grow?

1.5 Statement of the Hypothesis

The leaders’ leadership styles motivate their followers to do well.

Workers’ opinion of their leaders pushes them to perform better.

Employee satisfaction with the boss’s leadership style promotes organisational progress.

1.6 Scope of the Study

Leadership is a widespread phenomena among organisations. The study is an explanatory research that focuses on their member’s actions. The purpose of this explanatory study is to look into the role of leadership style in organisational development. To attain the intended goal, the study critically explores the concept of leadership, sources of leadership power, leadership, and leadership styles.

1.7 Significance of the Study

The significance of the study can be divided into two major categories: theoretical significance and practical significance.

1) Theoretical Significance: This study can be utilised to understand the relationship between leadership processes and employee performance in an organisation.

The study can also serve to raise other researchers’ attention, which can lead to more academics looking into the relationship between leadership processes and worker performance. The study can contribute to the literature on leadership and improve people’s comprehension of the idea.
