INFLUENCE OF WESTERN PROGRAMMES ON DSTV TELEVISION ON THE BEHAVIOURAL VALUES OF NIGERIAN YOUTHS

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the impact of DSTV television on the behavioural values of Nigerian youths. It focuses on the impact of Western programmes on DSTV on Nigerian university students.

The study proposes that current trends in the behavioural values of Nigerian youths, as found among students at The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife, Osun State, are significantly connected with their view of Western culture and exposure to Western programmes on DSTV.

Relevant literature was reviewed in relation to the study of hard. A sample size of 161 pupils was calculated quantitatively using Taro Yamane’s statistical formula, which is known as the population size. One theory, the media, cultivation theory, fully lent itself to this study.

It explains that acculturation of Nigerian youths occurs as a result of exposure to Western programmes on DSTV, which influences the perception of DSTV reality and alters self-image.

Based on a review of related literature, a questionnaire was designed to collect data using the survey research method, and recommendations for further research were preferred.
