INTRODUCTION OF TEACHING SEX EDUCATION IN PRIMARY SCHOOL
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
As far as education centres in Edo state are concerned, Benin city in particular has a large number of primary schools located in various parts of the city. These schools are either government-owned or privately owned, and there are also mixed primary schools for boys and girls.
Taking into account the fact that boys and girls in these primary schools are exposed to social, cultural, and economic issues, the following recommendations are made. Since this generation already understands what a sexual relationship entails, they must be taught about the results of sexual relationships in elementary school.
If students are made aware that sexual relationships will result in unintended pregnancies that will cause economic and social problems, they will decide against engaging in such behavior.
The introduction of sex education in our primary schools also aids in reducing the rate of social disorder in our society, thus putting an end to the number of infants abandoned in various locations.
The introduction of sex education will also enable teachers to provide teens with accurate, factual information about the development of their babies. During this period, girls develop breasts and their pelvic bones broaden between the ages of eleven and twelve (11-12), while between the ages of fourteen and fifteen (14-15), boys develop their sexual organs, chest enlargement, and laryngeal enlargement, which causes voice breakage.
The knowledge of f sex will also reduce the rate of casualties that would have resulted from the illegal procurement of abortions by quack physicians or nurses.
Because they are afraid to tell their parents that they are pregnant, the adolescents become involved in abortion. This pregnancy could have been avoided if schools taught sex education.
The knowledge of sex education will undoubtedly be of great assistance in resolving the social nuisance caused by abused children who engage in random sexual acts.
The teaching of sexual education in schools will aid in a small way in reducing the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases, which is currently one of the government’s primary concerns.
Sexual education alone is transformative, and the need to inform adults should not be overlooked, as it is commonly believed that understanding a problem is the first step in its resolution. If those involved are knowledgeable about the issue. The negative effects of sex education promiscuity would have been mitigated to a certain extent.
