JUSTIFICATION FOR THE TEACHING OF DRAMA IN CHILDREN’S THEATRE IN RIVERS STATE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Figures and abstract
This survey study, titled “Influence of creative dramatics on children’s education using pupils in selected primary schools in lkwerre local government area of Rivers State,” highlights the importance of creative drama as an activity that can reinforce learning among primary school students.
The reason for this research is justified by the national education policy on the use of play methods in the teaching process, as seen in section 2:14d of the 2008 policy. The problem with this study is that most parents are opposed to drama activities, despite the fact that students who participate in these activities have better exposures.
They socialize and develop competent creative skills as they interact with their peers. This study derives conclusions from Piaget’s cognitive theory, which supports children learning with ease and without stress, and suggests that high academic work above the pupils’ level be avoided.
This theory promotes teamwork and imitation as a quick and easy way to learn. The research’s main finding, based on data analysis, is the importance of using playing activities to teach in primary schools, as too many distractions are minimized among students during their studies.
Children are more attentive and relaxed when using this method, which reduces stress. The study concludes that there is a need to encourage Nigerian primary schools to develop a more unified, play-oriented learning template. The study advises strict adherence to the education policy that encourages the incorporation/utilization of play activities in the Nigerian primary education curriculum.
