CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
The cultural and tourism sectors have recorded significant success, and development which has enhanced the entertainment industry. Especially that has been a source of entertainment from the angle of different makeup and costume used in various cultural aspects. Make-up and costume are interpretative tools for promotion of culture and tourism; that enhances the actor’s appearance during a performance. (MartonBamham) asserts that, actors often find costume more important than scenery… many performance traditions throughout the world and many golden eyes of theatrical history, have achieved some display while lavishing resources on clothing excessive much and disguise. This is indicative of the high premium placed on costume and makeup because of its essential role in character creation and declaration. Beside characterization, they contribute in no measure to the total visual design. While one admits the aesthetic importance as well as the spectacle interpretation. Makeup is particularly associated with the moving actors and bride therefore, the most dynamic and living of all visual designs. Besides, it can tell about people or culture and costume are designed to donate character’s occupation, mood, status, religion and political tracts.
Make-up and costume becomes the extension of the image of the human body. The position however is that costume and makeup basically reflect character in relation to the indigenous or traditional cultural dictates of a people which has implication for development. Just as makeup and costume play a vital role in culture promotion, tourism development is not far from it.
Make-up plays a complimentary role to costume and to some different makeup is also considered as costuming, it is perhaps due to this conception of makeup that many practitioners have paid little or no attention to it as essential art in its own right. It has animate connection with the actors appearance.
Cambridge International Dictionary defines makeup as a coloured substance used on the face to improve or changed one’s appearance. The concept is narrow in conception. “Brockerasserts that makeup is normally used to cover all parts of the actor’s body not concealed by his costumes (grands). However, this is to say that makeup is not only limited to face of the actor’s or bride. Makeup helps in the understanding of the bride or the play, there are expressing the quality of the production as the actors facial and colour action are analyzed and compared with the idea character for the production.
Costume is an important part of acting in the theatre, therefore covering for an actor. It’s noted in the fact that the actors wear it and is continually within the attention of the spectators. Makeup and costume are the living things. Its only for the direction of the performance in which it appears.
Make-up are designed to donate character’s look, occupation, religion, political in the cultural promotion and tourism development. This is because makeup and costume tells the audience everything about the character. Makeup and costumecould therefore become effective tools for cultural promotion and tourism development.
MAKEUP AND COSTUME IS A TOOLS FOR CULTURAL PROMOTION AND TOURISM AREAS OF ACHIEVEMENT ARE CONNECTED AND THAT THE SECTION ARE UNIVERSALLY
