INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background for the Study

Water is an essential component of life, and without it, man will only survive for a few hours or days. Water is perhaps the body’s most important requirement; humans can survive without air for only a few minutes and without water for a few days.

It contributes in a variety of ways to the happiness, safety, and advancement of human life. The body is constituted of around 60% water, which is required for digestion, blood circulation, and excretion. Evans (1999).

According to Godman (2000), water is composed of two volumes of hydrogen and one volume of oxygen; the world is a water planet, and the abundance of this unique liquid is what has allowed life to exist on world.

Water has multiple physical, chemical, and biological applications, and it is most effective when in its purest form. The sea covers three-quarters of the planet, but almost one-third of the world’s population lacks access to safe drinking water.
