Chapter one

Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

The researcher chose Camela Vegetable Oil Ltd’s Owerri division to conduct the investigation. Camela Vegetable Oil Limited is a manufacturing/production firm that operates in a joint venture with a parent company in the United Kingdom, London. It is located on Onitsha Road, Industrial Layout, Owerri, Imo State.

Camela commenced operations in 1982 with a line crew of thirty employees, consisting of twenty production workers and ten administrative staff. Camela Vegetable Oil Ltd began manufacturing in 1993, followed by the launch of Camela Vegetable Oil in the Nigerian market through the efforts of their hired marketing team.

To improve its operational strategy, the corporation divided its operations in this country into two groups, one of which is located in Abia State and is still under construction.

Camela Vegetable Oil Ltd Owerri’s policy statement, like that of other operational-based companies, aims to conduct all of its operations in a way that ensures the reasonable and practicable safety of all of its employees and others who may be affected by its activities and operations.

Camela Vegetable Oil Ltd has not only met the criteria of the relevant laws safety acts of 1974, but has also promoted safety in appropriate steps to protect staff in shops and the environment as a whole.

As a result, in 1983, the company introduced a number of safety incentive schemes, including corporate safety, an environmental safety scheme, and a factory activities-based award. In addition to creating a safe working environment, the company provided safety equipment and training to its employees.

Despite this widespread impact of management, industrial accidents and other occupational hazards cause significant human and economic losses.

They are very difficult to quantify. As a result, managers at all levels, supervisors, and researchers must work harder to ensure that safety is properly integrated into the company’s operations.

As a result, it is critical that all safety activities and directions are followed exactly. workers safety is critical in all areas of the organisation, but it is especially vital in stores due to the working conditions under which store workers perform, as well as the numerous potential risks exposed during retail operations.
