ABSTRACT
Training and developing her personnel is one of the main ways manufacturing firms invest in their workforce for greater returns today and even in the future. Training is like honing an existing talent; it adapts to the changing technological landscape and social and cultural norms of a certain business. In today’s cutthroat business environment, increasing productivity is key. This training can provide the necessary skills to achieve that aim. Training and development programs primarily aim to boost business production by making workers more efficient. This explains why, at some point, the company invests a lot of resources into helping workers at different levels acquire more advanced abilities. Employee morale and productivity are both boosted by investing in human resource training and development. Everyone knows that a company’s employees are its most valuable asset, and that by investing in their development, the company can increase the value of its employees. Considering the aforementioned, the study suggests that Mercedes Benz ANAMMCO prioritise the training of her workforce and establish suitable management metrics to evaluate employee output.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Background of the Study
The industrial sector has experienced phenomenal growth over the past decade on a global scale. A few of these businesses rely heavily on low-skilled and unskilled labourers because of their size and scope. Due to globalisation and joint ventures with leading industries from developed nations, the usage of produced goods for other purposes is fast rising, in addition to the increased consumption of these commodities.
The need to raise product quality to meet or exceed global standards is becoming more apparent. Developing and introducing qualified workforce can meet the requirement for improved quality and economic output. But there’s no problem with developing and training this workforce.
As an economic resource, manpower can be described as the total number of people who are either actively seeking employment or who have the necessary skills, motivation, and resources to do so.
On the other hand, we can agree on a common definition of the term as the sum of a workforce’s attitudes, abilities, and knowledge as a result of its level of education and training, which in turn gives them the capacity to arrange and plan.
It is essential for organisations to carefully organise their manpower to ensure they have enough qualified individuals working on valuable tasks at all times. As a first step, you can conduct an audit of your current workforce to determine its skill mix, level of experience, and geographic distribution.
This will help you create a reliable method for predicting your manpower needs, production volume, expansion plans, technological developments, etc. After that, you can analyse your labour market and trends in the demand-supply relationship to formulate a strategy for meeting your manpower goals.
Social mobilisation and development go hand in hand. To achieve national development goals, it is necessary to remove people from their current circumstances and guide them through a system of planned indoctrination that will bring them into conformity with the new administration’s values.
This process involves replacing some parts of the old with new ones. The process by which individuals learn or gain information and/or competence for a defined objective is known as training.
When some articles noted that the idea has more values and can be used for new ones, it became clear that development is dynamic and change-directed.
Anammco’s Past
Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Nigeria’s first executive president, commissioned the plant on July 8, 1980, and Mercedes-Benz ANAMMCO limited was founded on January 19, 1977.
Its official production began in January 1981, and it has since left an impressive imprint on the country’s industrial progress, contributing more than 25,000 cars to the country’s transport industry and supporting it with a network of more than 36 after-sales service facilities and depots for spare parts. The core spare parts facility of the company has more than 35,000 line items in stock.
The Nigerian government and Dambler Chrysle AG are partners in Mercedes-Benz ANAMMCO. From five towns per load and upwards, Mercedes-Benz ANAMMCO dominates the Nigerian commercial vehicle industry.
The 300,000-square-meter facility in Emene, close to Enugu, is a model of a successful economic and technological partnership between the Nigerian government and its citizens and Dodge Motor Company, which uses a hybrid white-black administrative structure.
1.2 Statement Of The Problem
Training and developing human resources is a top concern for developed and developing nations alike. This entails coming up with methods to improve the calibre of human resources. The country working to achieve these goals considers them paramount.
As you’ll see, achieving these behavioural attitudes among the workforce it serves isn’t always a picnic. Lack of basic facilities and social amenities, such as water supply, and expensive transportation are among the issues faced by workers.
There is a significant risk to the manpower appointment. Employees without the necessary skills may feel threatened by layoffs and irregular pay.
1.3 Research Questions
Why? The government established the Ashby panel in 1963 to address the shortage of qualified high-level personnel; why was it disregarded?
Can the ever-increasing workforce be met by the current number of organisations? Is anyone doing anything to fix the crumbling public services and infrastructure?
Are the resources needed to train Nigerian workers available at the country’s development centres and schools of training? Are our performance evaluation criteria effective and trustworthy?
1.3 Objectives of the Study
Finding and analysing the obstacles to the country’s manpower growth is the major goal of this research. Because of the sector’s strategic importance in natural development and the development industry’s preeminent position in the motor manufacturing industry, local talent has benefited from development efforts.
A greater understanding of the value of workers’ education and training in acquiring occupation-specific skills should be fostered.
To improve infrastructure, let unskilled workers know they are part of the team, and reduce the time it takes to hire them so they can get to work faster and more efficiently.
In order to boost current and future performance.
In order to achieve satisfactory results with less time spent learning. This is achieved through the use of experienced teachers, well-regulated training times, and enhanced output from newly hired staff.
Assist in resolving operational issues. A decrease in absenteeism, accidents, and grievance rates can be achieved by training of supervisory and other staff.
Creating an apprentice training program, an industrial management class, and an advanced automotive engineering class will help meet the demand for qualified workers.
In order to provide workers with the updated information and practical abilities they need to advance in their careers and earn more money.
Dispute the loss of important employees to make the organisation more stable and flexible so it can continue to be effective.
1.4 The Scope of the Study
Given these overarching goals, it’s clear that workforce management is a vast and complex topic; hence, it will be challenging to cover all the relevant ground in this study. Consequently, the challenges surrounding ANAMMCO’s manpower development in Nigeria have been the exclusive focus of the study.
This is due to the fact that the country’s most prominent manufacturing industries adhere to ANAMMCO’s rigid framework for economic development, making it a preeminent institution in this regard.
1.5 Research Questions
1. How well-defined are the responsibilities of employees?
2. How well-educated and trained are ANAMMCO’s employees?
3. What is the frequency of staff training at ANAMMCO?
4. For how many weeks are the classes held?
5. Is there anything that ANAMMCO can do to help with employee growth and training?
Is there a correlation between the training and improved productivity? 6.
1.6 significance Of The Study
The study’s importance stems from the fact that ANAMMCO’s training and development of human resources has been around for more than 20 years. Their significance to Nigeria’s economic growth cannot be overstated. Foremen and managers, technicians, and businesses big and small stand to gain from the research.
On the flip side, experienced professionals, administrators, executives, and long-trained craftspeople whose lack of formal education is more than made up for by their years of practical experience make up the professional management cadre.
Training foremen and supervisors, as well as those participating in on-the-job training programs, were the ANAMMCO pointer course participants. More than 200 employees have taken advantage of the skill improvement course covering a range of professional fields, and a large portion of the staff has received training in foreman and supervisor duties.
Safety training and first aid classes. When conducting their own research on related topics, students will also consult this work. Industries in the manufacturing sector that are planning to grow in the next years and are concerned about retaining a steady workforce will also find this study very useful.
