PROGRESSIVE DECAY OF EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

FIRST PART

GENERAL BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Education is best known as a means of fostering the human intelligence and skills required to generate prosperity and maintain a suitable and democratic society.

This education, which I believe is the path to the attainment of individual objectives, economic security, and, more generally, the dignity and integrity of the nation, has become the nation’s greatest source of shame.

Moreover, if one were to examine the educational sector of this country, he would concur with me that our educational standard has declined to the point where graduates from our universities and polytechnics are unremarkable.

Our educational sector in the 21st century has encountered numerous challenges, including the following:

Academic calendar instability due to frequent industrial action, particularly in elementary schools and higher education institutions.

Inadequacy of instructional and research materials

3. schools have been underfunded, understaffed, and overcrowded, notably higher education institutions.

4. bribery and corruption have had a significant impact on our educational system.

Government must ensure that these obstacles, which are dragging down our educational sector, are removed so that we may have a streamlined educational system.

1.2 DIFFICULTIES RELATED TO THE CONTINUOUS DECLINE IN THE LEVEL OF EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

In recent years, our educational system has been plagued by numerous issues that cannot be overemphasised.

These issues have contributed to the decline of our educational system:

Instability of our school calendar/system: In recent years, there have been so many teacher/lecturer strikes that schooling has become so tedious that students have become frustrated.

This has also made it possible, in some elementary and secondary institutions, for students to be promoted to the next grade because they have spent so much time at home, making the future so bleak by destroying their leaders.

Inadequate teaching researcher equipment Some disciplines, such as physics and chemistry, require a well-equipped laboratory for instruction in secondary schools. Coming to the institution of higher education, causes such as engineering, computer science, medicine, lab tech, etc., must be practicalized; however, some schools lack the necessary apparatus, producing educated illiterates in their profession.

3. Understaffed, underfunded, and overcrowded schools: Some schools lack well-trained instructors (especially in secondary schools), and in some subjects there are no teachers at all, making it difficult for students to transition to higher education.

In a similar vein, some of our higher education institutions are so underfunded that there is no space for residential or administrative purposes. This typically results in the school or location being congested, making life difficult for students.

Meanwhile, the few comfortable schools are so expensive that only the wealthy can afford their school fees, not to mention the reading material, denying the poor the opportunity to be educated and interfering with the manpower development of the economy in general.

In addition, campus cultism continues to pose a grave threat to our educational system, as this hopeless group continues to engage in violence that has done us more harm than good. They destroy school property, murder classmates, and intimidate others.

Lastly, corruption, which is a major problem in our educational system. Corruption permeates every level of our educational system. In terms of admission, unqualified students are admitted at the expense of the unfortunate student, while exam cheating is the norm among students.

Some lecturers intimidate students because they refuse to pay for their success, which they have achieved through the grace of God and their own hard work.

In order for our educational system to survive, the nation must find a permanent solution to all of these issues immediately.

1.3 DIFFICULTIES AFFECTING THE STUDY.

There are issues that this research paper will investigate. Time constraint is among the obstacles. Due to the fact that this research must be conducted alongside regular schoolwork, it is not feasible for the researcher to cover as many related topics.

Second, financial constraints are included. This will restrict the researcher’s ability to conduct this study in so many institutions.

1.4 IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING THIS SUBJECT AREA.

Among the advantages of pursuing this subject are the following:

1. to determine whether anything can be done about this issue and to suggest potential solutions.

Determine if this low level of education has any negative effects.

Determine the primary cause of the decline in the quality of our education.
