DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE MTN SIM REGISTRATION SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
The SIM Card Registration System is a tool that users utilise to keep track of and manage many SIM card holders from various service providers. Designing and implementing an online MTN SIM registration system is the study’s goal.
In order to accomplish this goal, the following particular goals were established: to create application software that will assist in locating any illegal calls made by subscribers (customers) and gathering customer data for all MTN Nigeria subscribers.
The current SIM card registration procedure is time-consuming and laborious, which is the driving force for the adoption of the suggested solution.
The structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM), a technical strategy for employing objects throughout the software development process to analyse and design a system or application, is the methodology used in this study.
The programming languages that are utilised are PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JQuery. Because it is a web-based application and is platform independent, web programming languages were employed.
Because it will facilitate simple SIM registration and revalidation, this research project is important for MTN communication and telecommunication. Additionally, this research project will be used as a reference study guide by academic students, other researchers, and others.
An online MTN SIM registration system that processes the customer’s chosen MTN SIM card and enters all new users’ information on the network in accordance with NCC regulations is the anticipated outcome.
Chapter One
1.1: Introduction
The SIM Card Registration System is a tool that users use to manage and store several SIM card holders from various service providers. This idea offers a very honest method of preserving all of the information about service providers’ cardholders. This project was designed using intricate.net programming and a web application.
This project’s goal is to manage all cardholder data, including address, phone number, pin code, SIM serial number, SIM card number, email address, and so on, so that service providers can simply manage their clients.
All new and existing MTNN Network subscribers, both prepaid and post-paid, are the objective of the MTNN SIM card registration process, which primarily ensures that illegal phone use will be tracked.
The backdrop that motivated this investigation, the challenges that prompted it, and the study’s aim and objectives will all be covered in this chapter as an introduction to later sections of the research. Additional factors include the study’s significance, scope, limitations, and definition of technical words.
1.2 Background of the Study
MTN Nigeria functions under MTN International (Mauritius) Limited, a company that is overseen by the MTN Group as a whole. MTN stands for mobile telephone network, as was previously mentioned (Wikipedia, 2016).
In 1994, the organisation was established in South Africa to operate as a mobile operator. The South African city of Johannesburg is home to the headquarters.
In addition to Nigeria, MTN is present in a few other African nations as well as the Middle East region. Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea Republic, Afghanistan, Cyprus, and Syria are among the countries where it operates.
Importantly, MTN (2016) argues that the company is already an African-focused, cutting-edge communications network. In that regard, it has connections to around 203.8 million users worldwide across at least 22 nations.
MTNN will be implementing the MTNN Sim Card Registration in accordance with the Nigeria Communication Commission’s (NCC) directives and as part of efforts to have a valid database and as through Sim card Subscribers in Nigeria.
All MTNN Nigeria subscribers’ comprehensive information is being collected during the MTNN Sim Card Registration procedure. Because of the growing number of criminal acts involving mobile phones in the nation, this became necessary.
This is anticipated to be the main source for MTNN clients’ identity verification. The SIM card registration will allow MTNN to link each SIM card to the real owner’s identification, which will be recorded during the SIM card process.
The procedure for registering is:
Name of subscriber Address
Another phone number
Passport-sized photo
Thumb prints on the left and right
The index finger prints of the left and right
Individual unlocking key
Along with the previously mentioned details, the customer who wishes to register will also need to have an MTNN Sim card appear in person so that a photo and biometric (finger print) may be taken. Leveraging on specific MTNN Sim registration stations across the country, registration points will be set up, for example.
Connect retailers, designated post offices, and trade partners across the country with MTNN walk-in centres. In order to combat telecom crimes, Nigerian authorities have mandated that telecommunications companies, including MTNN, AIRTEL, GLOBACOM, ETISALAT, and others, record the personal information of their clients.
1.3 Statement of Problem The investigation found that the SIM card registration procedure, which is carried out all over the nation, has been extremely time-consuming.
Subscribers go to the registration locations and wait in a long queue until it is their turn; some are unable to complete the process that day and must come back the next day to re-join the queue.
This has been a problem because some of the subscribers are businessmen who have already disconnected from the network and have closed their stores in order to re-validate their SIM cards.
1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Research
Designing and implementing an online MTN SIM registration system is the study’s goal. In order to accomplish this goal, the following particular goals were established in order to create application software that will:
registered each new customer’s information on the network in accordance with NCC regulations;
Compile client data for each and every MTN Nigeria customer; and
assist in locating all illegal calls made by subscribers (customers).
1.5 Significance of the Research
A new strategic approach to registration was born out of the study. Because it will facilitate simple SIM registration and revalidation, this research project is important for MTN communication and telecommunication. Additionally, this research project will be used as a reference study guide by academic students, other researchers, and others.
1.6 Scope of the Study
The design and implementation of an online MTN SIM registration system is the main focus of the study. This study examines the procedures for registering SIM cards, primarily online, in order to verify user information on the SIM. Additionally, this study is for the MTN Nigerian telecom network.
1.7 The Limitations of the Study
Numerous factors hindered the completion of this investigation, including the following:
Time Restraint: Because of the school academic schedule, the researcher had a very small amount of time to complete this project. Additionally, the project was completed under pressure, which prevented the researcher from implementing some essential elements.
Establishment Policies: Because most staff members are not prepared to give the material required for this research project, establishment policies presented a significant limitation.
The scope was limited because the institution’s staff needed to provide a lot of material to improve the study, which they either took a long time to disclose or didn’t release at all for security reasons.
Research material: One significant obstacle to the study’s scope is the availability of research material.
Frequent power outages: In order to provide sustainable power, the researcher had to spend more money on fuel.
Financial Restraint: A lack of funds often makes it more difficult for the researcher to find pertinent literature, materials, or information and to collect data online.
1.8 Definition of Terms
Registration: This refers to preserving management-provided records for future use.
A smart card that is put into a cell phone and contains personal data related to the subscriber’s personal identification number or stored phone numbers is called a SIM card.
A subscriber is a client, individual, or business that buys products and services from another individual or business.

2.0 Literature Review
2.1 Introduction
This chapter’s primary focus is the review of pertinent literature. A literature review discusses the level of knowledge at the time of writing as well as theoretical and methodological contributions to a particular topic.
It gives you details about the current state of the art regarding the topic of your essay. It looks at the corpus of research on the selected topic.
