INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Media are those channels of information, such as radio, television, newspapers, magazines, and journals, that can make the same message available to a cross section of people regardless of their distance from the source of the message.

Just as the nervous system receives, processes, and interprets stimuli reaching the body in order to meet needs, organise, and correlate the body’s activities, the media industry today collects information from a wide variety of sources and places around the world, processes it

and reports it back to people in an equally diverse range of places in the Diaspora in an effort to bind parts of society together through interactions and interdependence moves.

However, McLuhan’s postulations elicited numerous reactions. One such criticism claims that the idea is, at the very least, technological overdeterminism.

As a result, opponents feel that focussing on distinctions between media may impair class consideration of various types of messages in the same medium or across media.

Nonetheless, the amount to which media has contributed to making the work smaller and more engaging is clear. The influence of these media are becoming so ubiquitous that communication professionals often refer to global neighbourhood families.

As a result, regardless of what radio and television say, their fundamental form (broadcast simultaneity to a diverse audience) allows global relationships to an unprecedented degree.

During World Football and Olympic events, at least half of the world’s attention is focused on one topic: a sporting contest between nations. The media therefore establishes agendas, interests, and pursuits.

As a result, it refers to a system of Diaspora nations in which people live and work together to achieve specific social, economic, and political goals, regardless of religious beliefs, ethnic nationalities, languages, race, geography, and so on, and where communication is used to express the interactions.

Meanwhile, many elements have been identified as media challenges, but it is regrettable that management may focus on the heart of media problems and opportunities.

The ownership affects the direction of media activity. No media outlet is prepared to provide content that contradicts both management intentions and ownership structure.

1.2 Statement of the Research Problem

Government and private sector officials have consistently asserted that intervention with media activities, as well as noncompliance with owner regulations, have invariably resulted in the instant dismissal of journalists from their positions. This study will look at the prospects and challenges of media management in Nigeria.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

The purpose of this study is to identify the opportunities and problems of media management in Nigeria (A study of Vanguard Newspaper and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria). The aims being studied are:

1. To investigate the issues confronting Vanguard Newspaper and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.

2. Determine whether ownership has an impact on media management effectiveness.

3. Determine how the organization’s structure affects its effective performance.

 

4. To determine the primary sources of revenue for Vanguard Newspaper and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria?

1.4 Significance of the Study

This study is, without a doubt, unique in that it focusses on the prospects and challenges of media management in Nigeria. This definitely makes this project understandable, as the research focusses on the Vanguard Newspaper and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.

However, the study’s basic technique or analysis would allow the researcher, and more significantly, people in positions of power, to understand the strength of the media and the obstacles they encounter throughout news dissemination.

As an academic work that will be subjected to scientific inspection in the form of empirical analysis, it strives to contribute to academic knowledge for the benefit of both scholars and great minds. Furthermore, individuals interested in a related issue will find it quite valuable as a reference point.

1.5 Research questions

These are pressing questions aimed at answering the study topic. The research questions for this study are mentioned below.
