ABSTRACT
Over the years, employers and employees in numerous organisations around the world have expressed worry about rewards and job happiness. Outsourced service companies in Jos, Plateau State are no exception.
Furthermore, inadequate incentive variables such as income, fringe benefits, recognition, advancement, and job security are among the leading causes of employee dissatisfaction and intention to leave their existing organisations.
Furthermore, the immediate forerunner to employee unhappiness with outsourced service providers has been low or inadequate compensation, which is of significant concern to both academic administrators and human resource managers in Nigeria.
In view of the foregoing, this study attempted to investigate the relationship between rewards and employee work satisfaction at chosen outsourced service providers in Jos Plateau State.
A survey research design was used. The population included all employees from the five (5) selected outsourced service providers in Jos, Plateau State. Census was the sampling strategy utilised. A census approach was employed to investigate the population, which totaled 541 personnel from the five selected outsourced service providers.
A total of 541 copies of the questionnaire were distributed, with 448 (82%) properly completed and returned, and 93 (17.2%) not returned. A verified questionnaire served as the research instrument.
The reliability test results using Cronbach’s Alpha range from 0.762 to 0.956. The hypotheses were tested using simple regression analysis and the Pearson Product Moment Correlation test.
This study found that pay (R2 = 0.665, p<0.05), fringe benefits (r=0.747, p<0.05), recognition (R2 = 0.558, p<0.05), promotion (R2 = 0.683, p<0.05), and job security (R2 = 0.711, p<0.05) all have a positive impact on employee job satisfaction at selected outsourced service providers in Jos, Plateau State.
The study revealed that all reward components had a substantial positive link with employee job satisfaction among outsourced service providers in Jos, Plateau State.
It is thus recommended that management of these outsourced companies improve on these rewards that have a direct and significant effect on employees’ job satisfaction (pay, fringe benefits, recognition, promotion, and job security) in order to reduce employee dissatisfaction, which may lead to poor performance and productivity.
