ABSTRACT

The project is called “The Role of Advertisement in Newspaper Patronage: A Case Study of Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, a stable of African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) PLC Ibadan.” The goal of this research is to determine the role of advertisements on newspaper patronage, with a special emphasis on Tribune Newspaper.

The survey method was used as a study approach, with a questionnaire serving as a data gathering tool. Residents of two local governments in Osun state were chosen at random. For the Boluwaduro and Boripe Local Governments, a sample size of 60 respondents was determined.

The assessment of current literature demonstrated that no organisation can survive in a competition-driven environment without advertising. The history and revolution of information technology have caused many media organisations to reconsider their approaches to gaining and retaining customers.

According to the data collected, the majority of respondents stated that newspaper advertisements helped increase newspaper sales, particularly for the Nigeria Tribune Newspaper.

The researcher determined that newspaper advertisements are a requirement for purchasing newspapers in Nigeria. It is proposed that the NUJ and NPAN ensure that media houses maintain high standards of professional practice and firmly adhere to the ethics of the profession in lieu of the large sums of money earned by advertisers in newspapers.
