ROLE OF MICRO FINANCE BANKS IN ENHANCING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG WOMEN
ABSTRACT
Over the years, governments, donors, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have sponsored and implemented projects aiming at economic and social empowerment for women. Despite these attempts, several issues still exist.
Microfinance as a tool for women’s empowerment has become the focus of numerous international and regional conferences, seminars, and workshops.
This study investigated the role of microfinance in the socioeconomic empowerment of women in Nigeria, utilising the Nsehe Micro Finance microfinance project as a case study. The survey approach was used, with questionnaires distributed to recipients of nsehe micro finance’s microfinance programme.
The study’s findings demonstrated that access to microfinance has made a significant contribution to women’s economic empowerment through business improvement.
Furthermore, the study demonstrates that access to microfinance has enhanced women’s status at the family and societal levels. As a result, the study suggests that nsehe microfinance should work to provide more loans to clients in order to help them build their enterprises.
Finally, nsehe microfinance should offer additional training programmes to women in order to strengthen their entrepreneurial abilities and help alleviate the barriers to microfinance.
