ROLE OF STAFFING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF MICRO FINANCE ORGANIZATIONS

ABSTRACT
The study, titled ‘Assessing the influence of staffing on organisational performance in microfinance organisations’, was conducted at Awing Central Cooperative Credit Union Limited in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon.

This thesis was conducted based on the observation that in the majority of microfinance organisations in Cameroon, the staffing technique used is the concur method, in which examinations are written and successful candidates are selected for training, which in most cases is a continuation of classroom work guided towards professionalism, which is not an appropriate staffing procedure.

This study is organised into five sections: introduction, assessment of relevant literature, presentation and analysis of results, and suggestions. Research questions were posed, and some were answered in the literature study.

From primary data, the researcher employed a questionnaire administered on tables to a sample of 20 people, as well as discussions with staff, on-the-spot observations, and interviews.

The data acquired during field survey activity was analysed using the simple random probability technique. Tables and graphs were utilised to present the data collected. According to data analysis, the majority of senior employees perform well because they have access to decent working circumstances, a good remuneration programme, motivation, and effective training and development plans.

Overall, this research found that, despite the growing importance of human resources (people), which are regarded as the most valuable asset of any organisation, profit or non-profit, most organisations continue to fail to meet their manpower requirements.

This is because the majority of individuals recruited are unqualified to undertake the jobs for which they have been hired; inadequate recruitment and selection techniques utilised by organisations may be the primary reason.

As a result, there have been several dismissals and a waste of business resources. The researcher recommended that Awing Central Cooperative Credit Union establish a separate human resource management department to manage the staffing functions

which include human resource planning, recruitment, selection, induction/socialization, training and development, performance appraisal, promotion, and other related human resource management functions such as occupational health and safety.

The researcher then proposed that additional studies be conducted in this subject to demonstrate the complete relevance of staffing on an organization’s performance, rather than just recruitment and selection, and that other similar surveys be conducted.

1. INTRODUCTION
This study examines the impact of staffing on organisational performance in a microfinance organisation. The study is being carried out at the Awing Central Cooperative Credit Union Ltd Bamenda, a microfinance institution in Cameroon.

The introduction will look at the problem, the study’s background, its purpose, research questions, research hypothesis, the study’s importance, the scope of the investigation, and essential term definitions.

Human resources are one of, if not the most precious, assets of any organisation. This means that the performance of an organisation is influenced by its staff. This is dependent on both the quantity and quality of workers or human resources.

As a result, most organisations seek the optimal human resource mix to ensure effective and efficient performance. Recruitment and selection practices have thus become the cornerstone of staffing for most organisations

particularly those in the private sector in Cameroon, which employs the concur method, in which examinations are written and successful candidates are chosen for training, which is typically a continuation of classroom work but guided towards professionalism.

This does not appear to be satisfactory because most clients or customers complain about the quality of service provided by some private organisations and thus prefer the services rendered by more standardised organisations with better management than others in the same private sector because better management and control means no corruption, embezzlement, or hospitable staff.
