ROLE OF WOMEN IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to investigate the function of Nkanu Women Co-operative Society Development, Nkanu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

The study’s subjects were four hundred and ninety-nine (499) registered women’s cooperatives from the same local government. The sample size was utilised to choose these four hundred and ninety-nine (499) co-operators from the population of six registered Women’s Co-operative Societies in the local government.

The study’s principal instruments were questionnaires and oral interviews.

A total of 550 questionnaires were distributed to registered members of the cooperative societies. Out of this total, 499 questionnaires were completed and returned, with one additional questionnaire provided to the business co-operative officer of Nkanu Local Government Area.

He also emphasised the need for cooperative officers in the Nkanu local government region to encourage women to invest more in productive companies rather than collecting individual loans from co-operatives. This would help to create job possibilities for the members and the residents of Nkanu in general.
