RURAL-URBAN MIGRATION AND RURAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Humans naturally migrate from their places of origin to their final destinations. This study focusses on rural-urban migration with the goal of identifying the socioeconomic and cultural causes of rural-urban migration

the socioeconomic and cultural implications of migration from the study area to other areas of final destination, the coping strategies adopted by community members in order to discourage rural-urban migration, and what needs to be done to slow the movement from one community to another.

The study aims to achieve this goal. Rural community development utilised both primary and secondary data to get information from members of the study community.

Purposive sampling was utilised to choose research participants, including key informants and focus group participants, from the general public.

According to the research participants, the residents of Kpongu consider development as the supply of social infrastructure as well as an improvement in standard of life, which is a motivating reason for migration.

Migration was viewed positively by the majority of respondents as improving their standard of living. Lack of economic possibilities, limited social amenities, and other factors have been identified as contributing to rural-urban migration in Kpongu.

The study suggested mitigation methods and recommendations to prevent migration from the study area to final destinations.
