INTRODUCTION

Academic results are used to provide feedback on students’ performance on subject or course examinations.

People must receive both affirming and corrective feedback in order to learn. Feedback, defined as information on the outcomes of one’s efforts, motivates students to improve when it is clear, specific, and timely. Because feedback is frequently associated with grading that follows assigned work or assessment activities, Walvoord and Anderson define grading as “..

When instructors provide prompt feedback to students, followed by discussion of incorrect responses, they are employing one of the most powerful predictors of positive student outcomes.

Walberg’s meta-analysis of studies on educational interventions that had the greatest impact on student achievement in K-12 classrooms discovered that feedback and corrective instruction was one of the most effective. A few years later, higher education made prompt feedback one of its “seven principles for good practice in undergraduate education.”

If students are to benefit from feedback, it must not only be timely and frequent, but also useful for improving performance by addressing three areas: what students did well, what students need to improve on, and how to improve. Feedback can take many forms, including formative, summative, individual, group, written, coded comments, and charts and rubrics of essential assignment characteristics.

Although detailed feedback is important, it may be even more important to provide it on time. However, it is also important to encourage students to carefully read and apply feedback. The study intends to provide an analysis of the impact of timely release of results on student academic performance in business education.
