INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Since early history, road transport has been a required end. People and material mobility, particularly in recent years, has emerged as one of the most pressing requirements in our society and economy.
Kunri (2005:79) refers to transport as the motor of the economy. This means that without a transport management system, the entire economy will stagnate. Transportation connects producers, suppliers, industrial users, and individual commuters.
According to research, transportation accounts for around 46% of total physical distribution costs for manufacturing organisations and 28% for reseller companies.
It is vital to highlight that without transportation, there is little success in producing, distributing goods and services, and moving people.
Because of the high value placed on transportation, humans have devised many means of transportation across time to enable the movement of people and things.
The mode of transportation chosen will be heavily influenced by price, time, delivery, condition and destination, client preferences, and previous purchase satisfaction.
Poor transportation management can jeopardise the source of material acquisition, the flow of products and services, price increases, and even the loss of lives.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Poor road transport management is one of the primary issues impacting economic progress. Poor road transport management has resulted in the ineffectiveness and collapse of Nigeria’s road infrastructure, which is supposed to transport bulky commodities from one city to another, and has caused excessive inflation.
This, in turn, has bounced as the road transportation system is characterised by heavy duty trucks overworking the road system, resulting in road damage, accidents, and loss of life and property.
