ABSTRACT
Investing in staff training and development is a wonderful way for companies to reap benefits in the present and the future. In order to adapt to the ever-changing technological landscape and social and cultural norms of every given company, training is like honing an existing ability. Training can serve as a foundation for increasing productivity, which is the objective of today’s competitive corporate environment. One of the primary goals of training and development is to boost staff efficiency, which in turn boosts business production. Because of this, organisations periodically invest a lot of time and money into helping their personnel enhance their skills at different levels. Training and development opportunities for secretarial personnel are crucial for raising morale and increasing output. Everyone knows that a company’s employees are its most valuable asset, and that by investing in their professional development, the company can increase the value of its employees. Based on the findings, the researcher suggests that Union Bank of Nigeria Plc Enugu North should invest heavily in secretarial staff training, establishing and enforcing acceptable and sufficient management criteria for evaluating secretarial performance, and ensuring that all branches of the institution adhere to the same standards.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Background of the Study
Training and development are driven by technological advancements in our environment and competitiveness within certain industries or society as a whole.
The reason behind this is that in order to increase productivity in a particular bank, there has to be a harmony between the necessary changes in structure, policies, technology, processes, and procedures, and the desired performance, attitude, and behaviour.
In order to compete with civilisation, training became a must. Training is systematically introducing a person to a set of events, experiences, and resources that, taken individually, provide learning possibilities.
Training, according to Appleby (1981), both boosts performance in the here and now and ensures that there will be enough qualified workers to satisfy demands both now and in the future.
Training is undertaken since it significantly enhances the efficiency of the firm. Economic and national progress can’t happen without a properly trained workforce.
Organisations that prioritise training over other forms of employee development are setting themselves up for failure to adapt to an ever-evolving technological landscape, as well as for their employees to become irrelevant and useless within the company.
For instance, secretarial personnel are now required to get computer training. In Nigeria, training is highly structured since it boosts employee output. Words and signs were used as examples to do this.
The development process, known as training, was accomplished using these devices, and when the message was effectively received by another, we say that learning had taken place and that information or skill had been transferred. Significant shifts in the idea of secretarial staff organisation occurred with the advent of social legislation in the ninth century.
