THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY AMONG NIGERIAN FEMALE SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS (A CASE STUDY OF MAKURDI LGA)
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to identify and investigate the causes and effects of teenage pregnancy on academic pursuits, as well as its general and societal repercussions in Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State. The first chapter focuses on the introduction (background to the study), the statement of the problem, and the objective of the study.
The research question’s underlying assumption, the breadth of the study’s limitation, and the definition of words Aside from the general introduction in the first chapter, the second chapter is devoted to a study of linked and pertinent literatures.
This chapter will provide the reader with an understanding of the notion of adolescent pregnancy, its causes, and its general and social effects. The third chapter is about the research method. The data was collected using a questionnaire and an oral interview, and the data was analyzed using frequency counts and simple percentages.
The fourth chapter discusses the detailed examination of data or presentation and discussion of results. It has been discovered that adolescent pregnancy has an impact on the academic and career prospects of the adolescent involved. The fifth chapter contains a summary, conclusion, recommendation, and references. Finally, it was clear that a pregnant adolescent student is unlikely to complete her degree.
And the failure to complete a university education may limit her lifetime earning potential, causing her child to get trapped in a cycle of poverty that is difficult to break. Teenagers should be provided abstinence education as well as sex education in order to avoid attacks and lower the rate of adolescent pregnancy.
