THE CHALLENGES FACING THE NEWLY EMPLOYED SECRETARIES IN SELECTED MINISTRIES

ABSTRACT

The difficulties encountered by newly hired secretaries in a few ministries in Imo state are the primary subject of this research study. The lands and survey, agriculture and natural resources, works and housing, education, and finance ministries—all situated in Owerri, Imo state—were the targets of the investigation. Considering the five ministries and the expertise of the “secretaries,” with a focus on freshly appointed ones, the study used simple random sample procedures. The survey was the tool used to gather information. The researchers in this study set out to answer three questions about the expected responsibilities and abilities of newly hired secretaries in a few ministries in the state of Imo, as well as the difficulties these secretaries would face in their new positions. The majority of respondents highly agreed with the first research question, according to the results. All of the talents listed as necessary for newly hired secretaries in certain ministries in Imo State are firmly agreed upon by the respondents, according to the calculated mean responses for the items under research question two. Regarding the third research question, four of the seven obstacles listed were strongly agreed upon as being faced by newly hired secretaries, while the other three were strongly disagreed upon. The executives and the rest of the staff were advised to welcome the newly hired secretaries with open arms, but be careful not to take advantage of them. On an individual basis, the secretaries should use discretion in their work.
