1.0 Background of the Study

Typing, writing, and transcribing shorthand were the original functions of secretaries. These days, though, it goes well beyond that; with the aid of manual technological equipment, it performs tasks like sorting and retrieving information, passing on information, and so on.

Helping an executive out as a secretary requires someone with excellent organisational skills, the capacity to work independently, good judgement, and the ability to make decisions within their authority.

In addition to doing a variety of administrative tasks, the secretary often acts as an organization’s representative when making decisions. The aforementioned issues with ICT have sparked debates on the role of the secretary in this field.

Information communication technology, sometimes abbreviated to “I.C.T.,” was initially used extensively in 1981 to define systems and equipment being implemented in the public and commercial sectors for the purposes of information creation, storage, and distribution.
