INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Junior high school education is the foundation for all further formal education. According to Friedrich Emelin (1995), it is the most essential level of education in a system of education since it provides the foundation or background for learning. Academic success is crucial at all levels of education. In this course, we will cover the academics of junior secondary school.

The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow; hence, they are the focus of this study. Given the significance of this level of education to the growth and development of the pupils, this course of study is worthwhile. Leopoid (2000) stated that a child’s outstanding achievement encourages him or her to concentrate on his or her area of expertise and do more.

He also stated that a student’s failure to improve academic performance typically has a psychological impact on the child’s subsequent endeavors. This is an issue for educators, parents, and the federal government.

Poor academic performance among junior secondary school students in the Egor local government region of Edo state requires an investigation. Education is an instrument for the growth of every nation, including Nigeria.

As a result, most modern state governments devote a great deal of attention to the education sector and allocate a larger portion of their annual budget to education-related initiatives. Parents can support these initiatives by sending their children to school on time and encouraging them to develop an interest in learning, so that they can become the future leaders.

Moreover, children should not approach their studies with a “lucky worm” mentality in order to attain the goal of education.

Therefore, the objective of junior secondary school is an important education that will decide the child’s performance following the policy on the JSS M.P.E book. The purpose of this project was to investigate the poor academic performance of junior secondary school students in the J.S.S test.

A case study of Edo’s Egor Local Government Area. Edo Boys Junior Secondary High School, Uwelu Junior Secondary School, and Ohonre Junior Secondary School are the schools in question. The student must be psychologically, physically, and biologically prepared to take instruction from the teacher, according to Hadelo (1979).

Hove (1993) defines learning as a more or less permanent change in behavior that results through action, teaching, or observation. Gsgne (1987) states that learning encompasses not just matter, but also habit, attitude adjustment, preference interest, and social adjustment, among other types and concepts.

The first definition was narrow and thoughts have evolved First, competence was defined as a skill acquired through practice or experience. The second definition is more comprehensive because it includes the modification of human behavior as a result of direct experience, which may lead to the establishment of attitudes, perceptions, preferences, and interests.

In addition to fostering social adjustment, learning fosters the growth of stillness and ideas. The central idea relates to humans living in a different environment than their own. Permanently, in the above example of a roadside machine, acquired knowledge has assumed a quasi-permanent position in the machine’s existence.

Education is defined as the extensive training and development of skills and abilities. The school is only an institution that provides education. There are more educational institutions, such as the household, the extended family, churches, and religious organizations. The issue became evident when we realized the breadth of opportunities school affords. An examination of the poor academic performance of junior secondary students J.S.S. evaluation A case study of Edo’s Egor Local Government Area.

Lack of educational resources and teaching aids
Classroom overpopulation or overcrowding.
The frequent relocation of a parent from one geographic region to another as a result of a job transfer.
This course covers these concerns and provides suggestions.
