Introduction
After more than a decade of extraordinary economic growth, the global economy is facing a new downturn. The Nigerian government must balance the health of its inhabitants with economic stability and its own debt. As Nigeria’s government closes down, the private sector and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are impacted.
Aims and Objectives
The objective is to evaluate how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can scale during this period of coronavirus illness outbreak without ceasing operations. The objectives are met by achieving the following:
Examine the prevalence of coronavirus in Nigeria.
Examine the effects of coronavirus illness on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria.
To advocate how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can operate in Nigeria with least loss and continuity.
Importance of the Research
The study would help agencies responsible with eradicating COVID-19 in Nigeria to understand the effects of coronavirus disease on small and medium-sized enterprises. This will affect the decisions of investors, and the proposal’s outcome will benefit a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
The Purpose of the Study
I discovered from a survey of the relevant literature that a number of methodologies are used to examine the determinants affecting SMEs; however, these techniques did not concentrate on infectious epidemics. As a student of B.Sc. Economics, this project will allow me to expand my knowledge of the business sector in Nigeria and gain a thorough understanding of the factors affecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The technique used has advantages by demonstrating how infectious epidemics affect SMEs.
Principal Argument of the Study
As Wuqi, Cordia, Ayan, and Jing (2018) experimented with SARS coronavirus and H7N9 viruses, it is assumed that coronavirus sickness affects the survival of small and medium-sized firms.
