CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Background of the Study
Scientists like Taylor and Gilbert, who were trailblazers in the field of management, laid the groundwork for modern organisational theory and practice. The first methods and setup of the job in numerous organisations. In order to make an organisation more efficient, “organisation and methods” only means applying work study methodologies to its structure and procedures.
The combination of organisation and procedures is now a highly significant asset for any company. Particularly for our teaming unemployed, it has actually become a specialised area with job opportunities.
For the typical intelligent worker, it’s a chance to show his worth by contributing to better procedures in ways that are both demanding and rewarding.
Methods and organisation are defined by British standard 3188.1001 as the systematic review of operations with the goal of enhancing the efficient use of people and material resources.
As per Harzel’s definition in 2001, “organisation and methods” refers to the process of enhancing an organization’s efficiency by implementing work study methodologies into its structure and procedures. According to Briscoe (1992), the main goal of the speciality function known as “organisation and methods” is to enhance control and efficiency inside organisations.
Therefore, it is considered a must-have component of any organization’s structure. Business process re-engineering and improvement can be considered as built upon the foundation of organisation and method, along with its accompanying methodologies.
Improving administrative procedure and clerical practice in the office is the primary goal of implementing organisation and technique. Understanding the meaning of “office” is, thus, of equal importance: – A When it comes to processing equipment or information, an office can be a silent killer.
The term “office” has two meanings: first, as a place to work; second, as a location where business is conducted. It should be highlighted that the existence of offices is a product of the work world, regardless of how offices are defined. A room’s size has little bearing on what an office is, even when performing clerical tasks inside.
In contrast, it makes no mention of the scope or character of any organization’s operations. The classroom where a professor meets with his students is also known as an office, as is the chamber where the president of Nigeria carries out the constitutional responsibilities entrusted to him.
Managing an office
You could say this is an attempt to achieve an office goal by systematically relating the parts and pieces that are necessary to do the job. Simply said, organisation is the process of arranging one’s activities in a proper and systematic way. In contrast, it is a method for optimally coordinating the structure and procedures of an organisation.
1.2 Statement Of The Problem
It could be difficult to maintain the ideal order in the workplace if company workers lack sufficient training in organisational principles and practices. Possible outcomes include insufficient documentation and subpar performance from staff members.
So, in Kaduna North Local Government, is it the case that employees’ lack of understanding of the organization’s processes and procedures results in subpar work and inaccurate records?
Also, what does it imply if every officer in the Kaduna North Local Government is well-versed in organisational theory and practice? It would undoubtedly improve staff output and documentation. This is a matter that is currently being investigated.
Low performance and contribution cost to the document are possible outcomes in the absence of knowledge about the organisation and the approach.
As a result, we’re doing this study to keep tabs on how well people understand the organisation and its practices, how well they document their work, how well they perform, and how we might help them learn more.
1.3 The Objectives of the Study
Aims and purposes undergird any research. Office administration in the Kaduna North Local Government region is the focus of this study, which aims to examine the effects of organisation and procedures. Finding solutions to problems with office administration in the field of study is of primary importance to the researcher. Consequently, this research aims to accomplish, among other things:
In order to find out how well-versed in organisation and tactics the office holders are.
In order to identify the issues that can arise from a lack of understanding of organisation and procedure.
Determine a means of imparting organisational and methodological expertise to those holding positions within the local government.
The objective is to find out how the organization’s and methods’ knowledge will lead to good documentation and high employee performance.
HYPOTHESIS STATEMENT
During the course of our investigation, we tested the following hypothesis to see if it holds water. So, here are the theories:
1) The office’s record keeping and documentation processes are not improved by organisation and approaches.
Section 1: Structure and Procedures` enhanced the office’s record-keeping and documentation procedures.
2) Decisions, processes, and answers to new problems in company operations are not encouraged by the organization’s procedures and structure.
Ho: the structure and procedures promote rapid processing of decisions, as well as answers to new problems that arise in the course of corporate operations.
Identifying and resolving issues that may arise due to a lack of understanding about the organisation and the process is another important goal of this study. This information will be preserved for future use by scholars and government officials.
1.5 The significance Of The Study
Organisation and method are a course that is designed for the smooth operation of the office, which is the coordinator of all organisation activities; hence, the significance of this project cannot be overstated: The efficient running of an office requires familiarity with organisational theory and practice.
Additionally, other researchers will be able to use the research as a starting point for their own work. The analysis also uncovers issues that most office users are likely to encounter.
1.6 Scope of the Study
The effect of structure and methodology on administrative work is the primary focus of this research. The researcher will focus only on the Kaduna North Local Government area during the course of the study.
1.7 Limitations of the Study
The respondents are serving members of the Kaduna North Local Government and Sultan Bello Primary School; as a result, they were so busy that they had to reschedule their appointments before the questionnaire could be sent out.
This is one limitation of the research. Additionally, some employees felt the information needed to be formal and sought to get approval from a supervisor before answering the questions.
