ABSTRACT

Transportation is critical to national growth. This component has long been recognised as a major contributor to the economy’s rapid growth. It has recently been discovered that transit helps other sectors of the economy carry out their functions. During the course of this research, it was observed that transport receives insufficient attention. The NNPC depot has been chosen as a case study for this research. A theoretical study supported by observations, an oral interview at the depot, and a review of many authors all contributed to the success of this research activity, after which hypotheses were developed and tested based on the sample size.

Chapter one

Introduction

A variety of elements contribute to development. Transportation is the primary factor. Economic and social progress can only occur if the determinants of a satisfactory existence, namely food, health, education, and employment, are widely available.

Transport has undergone a revolution in recent years, with the introduction of mass air travel, high and quick growth in personal mobility based on automobile ownership as well as public vehicles, and a reorganised distribution network. All of these factors have contributed to a country’s industrial and commercial progress.

This can be summarised in the following quote: “Transport provided the formative power of economic growth and the differentiating process” (Voigt 1967). The economy is currently focussing on transit to drive rapid growth.
