ABSTRACT
This project work investigates road transport issues in Edo State, using Egor as a case study. The study’s goal is to investigate the role of road transport. And then there are the issues with vehicle transport. Questionnaires were utilised to obtain information.
The basic percentage approach was employed for data analysis, and the mode of discovery in Egor Local Government Area in Egor LGA is road transport. And transport issues in Egor Local Government Area include poor road design, flooding, and traffic congestion.
Roads should be adequately constructed, coordinated, and maintained. It was suggested that road to alleviate the difficulty of road transport in Egor LGA.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
One of the biggest obstacles to Nigeria’s economic and social well-being in the last five years has been the gradual drop in the number of transport facilities across the country, resulting in a road transport problem. Nigeria is currently experiencing an impending catastrophe and transportation paralysis.
This is particularly evident in the issues encountered with both rural and urban mass transit. We place a high value on roads. We travel from place to place along them on foot, bicycles, vehicles, and so on. Our food and other things are delivered to us via roads, from markets in nearby villages, factories in our towns and cities, or from faraway nations.
Road transport is the most major mode of transporting passengers and commodities in Nigeria. Early roads were established in the Middle East shortly after the creation of the wheel and internal combustion engine around 3000BC, when trade between towns and villages expanded.
More roads have been built. The Romans, Eurasians, Egyptians, Etruscans, and Carthaginians were the first modern road builders. Road construction in Nigeria is relatively new, however footpath constructions existed prior to the arrival of the missionaries.
Some of these routes were built as motorable roads to supplement the functions of the railway system. There are smaller tarred highways connecting towns, and thousands of little untarred roads connect villages all around Nigeria. The road has become a major issue in connecting cities.
The unpaved road and high incidence of pole holes have caused significant damage to many valuables, resulting in a drop in fares and the majority of available items carried or transported to our town. Travelling to a nearby community is frequently pricey.
The most common mode of transportation in Egor LGA is through road. Many economic activities have been hampered as a result of poor road conditions, which have resulted in vehicle shortages and increases in fares. Water has pooled all over the place, making it difficult for people to go from one location to another, even along pathways.
Transportation has generally become unbearable for the people of Egor LGA; however, it is important to note that the rapid growth of our nations, the problem of urbanisation, the expansion of industries, and our commitment to rural development are all factors that necessitate the effective implementation of the national transportation coordination policy.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Over the years, considerable attention and effort have been directed towards improving road transport in Nigeria as a whole, but these roads, once commissioned, have been left uncared for, with holes and cracks dotting the highways.
Despite the fact that millions of dollars have been spent to promote a smooth, good road, the Nigerian factor would not enable the appointed officials to carry out such tasks until the roads become a “death trap,” despite the fact that millions of dollars have been spent on the nation’s road over the years. As a result, the purpose of this research is to look into road transport issues.

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this research is to look into road transport in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State, and how it has hampered the movement of people, products, and services. It is also to investigate the concept of road transport, identify or investigate the functions of road transport, investigate the difficulties of road transport, investigate the causes and effects of road transport, and propose solutions to the road transport problem.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The research will focus on Egor LGA in Edo State. It will concentrate on the area’s road transport issues.
1.5 RESEARCH QUESTIONS/HYPOTHESIS
The researcher developed the following study questions in order to investigate the challenges of road transport in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
In Egor LGA, road travel is one of the most significant and popular modes of transport. Eventually, all economic operations are conducted out via road transportation.
The study thus investigates the problem of road transport in the area, its origins and effects, with the goal of proposing a solution to the problem of road transport in the area.
1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS
The environment is a geographical location made up of territory.
Thins (not people) conveyed by rail or road are referred to as goods.
A passenger is someone who travels in a car, bus, train, plane, or ship but is not driving or working on it.
Ply: To travel on a regular basis along a specific path or between two specific locations.
Pothole: A huge rough hole in the road surface caused by traffic and severe weather.
Road: A specially planned path, either publicly or privately owned, that connects two points for the use of pedestrians, cyclists, and cars.
A route is a fixed path along which a bus, rail, or other vehicle travels or commodities are sent on a regular basis.
Transportation: A mode of transport for products, services, and passengers from one point of origin to another.
Vehicle: Any transport (often wheeled, such as a cart, lorry, or motorcar, but also a sledge) for goods or passengers, or for use on the road or on land.
