ABSTRACT
The primary objective of this research is to investigate the function of purchasing in multinational corporations in Nigeria’s economic development. MNCs are agents of development in the sense that they provide capital investment, employment opportunities, technological transfer, and so on. However, many people despise their existence since they are exploiters of the people they came to develop. In this regard, the goals of this work are to determine the extent of multinational companies’ involvement in Nigeria’s economic development using indices such as job creation and technology transfer, as well as to determine the political and socioeconomic implications of their presence in Nigeria. All of this was explained in Chapter 1. The second chapter examined relevant literature. The literature includes people’s perspectives on the actions of multinational corporations. Chapter three covers research design and methods. The data used came from both primary and secondary sources. Primary sources include oral interviews and questionnaires, and secondary sources include newspapers, journals, textbooks, and symposia. In Chapter Four, the obtained data was presented and examined, and the hypotheses were likewise tested, revealing that MNCs are not interested in Nigerian economic development but rather in exploiting the Nigerian economy. In Chapter 5, the recommendation is made that Nigeria develop its own indigenous technology to aid in its economic development.
