ABSTRACT

Training and Development as a strategy for improving employee performance was investigated to determine whether it had a positive impact on employee performance.

Many employees have failed in their organisations because their training and development needs were not identified and addressed as a necessary component of the management function.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether training and development is truly serving as a tool for improving employees’ job performance in Nigeria, by investigating the performance of various employees of United Bank for Africa Plc and how employee training and development has helped to improve operations.

Four research questions were created from the study’s objectives and examined with simple percentages, while two hypotheses were assessed with Chi Square. The researcher used a survey study strategy to examine if there is a relationship between the dependent and independent variables.

The research tool utilised here is a questionnaire given to a sample size of one hundred and seventy (n=170) management and staff members of United Bank for Africa plc. Data were also gathered from the internet, economic textbooks, and pertinent newspapers and periodicals.

The study’s key findings say that the organisation views training to be part of its strategy, and that the training programme assisted the organisation in meeting its objectives.
