UBIQUITOUS ONLINE SYSTEM TO EVALUATE USER SELF-EFFICACY AND ANXIETY ON DISTANCE LEARNING

Chapter one

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

In the twenty-first century electronic age, the internet and multimedia formats have touched the majority of the world’s functional industries. The educational industry is undeniable.

However, the industry faces a number of obstacles in this area. One of them is computer-related anxiety. Howard (1986) defines computer anxiety as “when a person feels uncomfortable or anxious while using or being expected to interact with a computer.”

This study delves further into computer phobia and the effect of mobile phone self-efficacy on students’ attitudes towards online courses.

Mobile phone self efficacy refers to an individual’s confidence and judgement in their ability to use a mobile phone for a certain job.(Compareau and Higgins, 1995). It’s akin to computer efficacy. Only mobile phone self-efficacy may be investigated on a very intimate level.

There is a need to examine distance learners’ attitudes towards online courses. If the students hearing the lectures experience some level of computer anxiety, the aim of education will be defeated.

The purpose of this study is to look at how mobile phone self-efficacy and computer anxiety affect distance learners who have to attend some online courses.

The plot would go as follows: A sample amount of participants would be selected, and questions would be posed to them about taking online courses. Their responses would then indicate their level of anxiety while dealing with the computer and other multimedia computing devices.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Computer anxiety is a big issue when presenting lectures to distant learners, and we wish to develop an evaluation software that may be utilised to mitigate the effects of computer anxiety.

This will allow us to plan for future uses of the internet to deliver teaching. This would objectively increase distance learners’ attitudes towards online learning.

1.3 Aims and Objectives of the Study

The objectives of this study include:

Creating a self-efficacy evaluation facility.

Helping distance learners overcome their anxiety.

The study’s aims include:

Examining relevant books and research materials in a same area of study

Examining the most effective Software Life Cycle methodology for software implementation.

Finding the finest programming tools to implement it.

1.4 Outline of Methodology

This idea and project were implemented using the server-side programming language PHP and the MySQL database querying language. This will also be served as a web application through an online domain.

1.5 Scope of the Study

The study will focus on a student education system and can then be expanded to broader populations around the world.

1.6 Significance of the Study

This study is significant because it investigates the benefits of mobile phone self-efficacy in computer-based education, the drawbacks of ICT in the educational sector, namely computer anxiety, and the suggested solutions to this problem.

1.7 Motivation for the Study

The study is driven by the fact that many students struggle with the usage of digital devices and so require a method to improve on those weaknesses. Furthermore, there is less anxiety associated with the usage of computers.

1.8 Organisation of the Project

The project is organised in such a way that Chapter One investigates and explains in reasonable detail the background of the independent factors used in the study of mobile phone self-efficacy and computer anxiety among students.

In Chapter Two, we take a thorough look at the history and associated works of ICT and the education sector, as well as the challenges that arise from it. Chapter Three delves into the methodology used to carry out this investigation.

Specifically, the methodology for this study will be based on the standard Software Development Life Cycle model. The fourth chapter presents the results of the research. Chapter Five concludes the project work with a summary, findings, and recommendations for future projects.
