ABSTRACT
The student/researcher has read about the “hi-jacking” of the purchasing profession by non-professional executives throughout the years. Also, the purchasing function is relegated to the background as a minor clerical job, despite the fact that this function/profession is in responsible of spending up to 65% of an organization’s budget. During her one-year industrial attachment, the researcher noticed how non-professionals who claimed to know the job mistreated the purchasing function. The student has also encountered various questions, such as why study purchasing and supply when an uneducated woman in the hamlet may successfully purchase her desired item in the market. However, all of this prompted the researcher to conduct a study on the topic “The use of non-professional buyers in the procurement of goods and services – problems and solutions.” This paper will address all aspects of purchasing as they affect this company, PZ Plc, with a focus on the organisation in general.
It will also help to provide suggestions for solutions to the difficulties. However, the research findings will be presented in five chapters. The first chapter will describe the introduction to the topic area, the issue statement, and the objective of the research. The research will then go on to clarify the scope of the work. The second chapter’s literature review will look at other authors’ previous work as well as similar topics. Chapter three will cover the methods and procedures needed to obtain information on the issue, while Chapter Four will go over the presentation and analysis. Finally, chapter five will provide a summary, conclusion, and recommendations based on the findings of this research.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Any organisation, whether commercial or public, need effective management to ensure its survival and success. As a result, efficient administration is increasingly important, particularly as technology advances, tastes and populations shift, and inflation rises. All of these factors are expanding geometrically in comparison to restricted resources.
For successful management, all of an organization’s functional units must work together to achieve its goals, so purchase and supply are inclusive.
However, in order to have efficient management, the buyer must purchase the appropriate quality and quantity of raw materials, supplies, components, tools, equipment, and so on at the right time, from the right source, to the right place, and at the right price.
This is possible when the proper person has gone through the necessary processes to attain the relevant occupation. This qualification can be HND, NIPSM, CIPSM, etc.
