Utilization Of Community Resources In The Implementation Of Community Development Projects In Nsukka Local Government Area Of Enugu State

ABSTRACT

The study examined how community resources are utilised for community development initiatives in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria. The study used five research questions to evaluate the use of community resources in community development projects in Nsukka Local Government Area, including physical, human, and institutional resources. It also examined factors that hinder effective resource utilisation.

Four null hypotheses were evaluated at the.05 level of significance and guided the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. We used a simple selection strategy to select 285 respondents from a population of 964 registered community development associations in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State.

The study utilised a 45-item UCRICODEPQ structured questionnaire. The instrument was verified by three specialists from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka: one in measurement and evaluation and two in community development.

Cronbach’s alpha estimate was used to assure reliability. A reliability coefficient of 0.81 was obtained. Data was analysed using frequencies, percentages, weighted means, and standard deviations. Responses were evaluated using a criterion mean of 2.50 to determine acceptance or rejection.

Respondents received copies of the instrument through direct delivery. The study found that community resources (physical, human, and institutional) were used moderately in implementing community development programs.

Male and female members of community development associations in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State rated the utilisation of community physical, human, and institutional resources significantly differently, leading to the rejection of all four null hypotheses.

The study recommends that state and local governments educate communities on the importance of involving everyone in community development projects. Additionally, Enugu State Government should incorporate core leadership programs through education empowerment.
