How to Build Your Creativity
Creativity always bring new trends our way, and this often catches people’s attention. The new soon becomes old and somehow there’s need to give the old a touch of newness or difference from the usual again. As much as there may be no new thing under heaven, people keep harnessing their power of creativity to do basically old things in a new way. Be it in education, technology, business, communication, religion and the likes, creativity has kept new ideas, methods and techniques popping up by the day which often promise to be easier and perhaps more interesting than old ways. Whatever you do, it’s likely there are many more people doing similar things, your uniqueness will be in what touch of creativity and innovativeness you can add to yours in order to stand out and more effectively meet people’s needs. But as important as creativity is, it is not something that you just find anyhow anytime, while some people may prove to be more creative than others, everyone can be creative by applying helpful strategies. If you are looking for a way to build your creative power, you might want to consider applying the strategies given below:
Learn from Others
No one is an island of knowledge, also know one is an island of ideas. If you’re wracking your brain seriously just to find something new or to hit on a genius idea and you are unable to hit on anything, you should find a way of tapping creative inspiration from others. Read books that can spark creative ideas in your area of interest, watch videos, or check on other people’s works to draw some inspiration. By rubbing minds with other great minds, you never can tell, some idea and inspiration might drop. A window may be opened for you to receive creative push.
Take a Break, Go Do Something Fun
When you are stuck on a work, seeking for creativity to move on, why not take a break from that work for some time, and go out, go and do something you enjoy. Relax your mind and if possible leave the idea of seeking for inspiration at that period, just enjoy the moment. Inspiration may drop when you least expect it, but at least ease the pressure on your mind first, it might be in the wandering of your mind that an idea will just drop.
Think Outside the Box
When you set your mind to begin to think outside the box, it’s a way of trying to redirect your thoughts to go outside the norm, the usual, the conventional and the status quo. Begin to think of things in an unusual, unconventional way. What if we add this? What if I replace that with this? What if we do it this other way? Try looking at that thing from a different angle from the normal way. You may even decide to go beyond just thinking, you may just try it out and see how it will come out.
Work on Your Confidence
When you are not confident about your ability in what you do, it can affect the flow of creativity. But when you build your competence and confidence level and you operate from that mind-set of settled confidence, then the fear and pressure that could have otherwise shot out inspiration and creativity will be removed, then a flow of ideas can be easier. So work on improving your competence and confidence in your work.
Understand Your Niche
When you have a good grasp and in-depth knowledge of the nitty gritty of something, it will be easier for you to link things together and combine things in an interesting and creative way. A person who understands colour very deeply will be able to manipulate colours in such a way that a novice or amateur in that area cannot.
Change Your Environment
If you are looking out for inspiration and creative ideas on a particular work you are doing or in your industry generally, you may want to change your environment. Seeing different people, environment, surroundings, pictures, images and things could trigger creative ideas. An environment you are not so much used to will likely catch your attention more and probably engage your mind in a new way.
Stir and Appreciate Your Curiosity
Don’t see curiosity as something you should stop or eliminate. Take advantage of your curious mind if you have one, and let that lead you into finding new things. If you are not too much of a curious person, then you should begin to deliberately practice curiosity. Engage your mind with things and people around you consciously and questioningly. Don’t always accept things as they are, try to find out why they are the way they are, when you understand that, see if there can be a way to change something about the status quo.
Do Projects that Challenge You to Get New Ideas
Don’t stop at doing things that you know how to do already, don’t also keep doing things you do using the same method. Set yourself up to find out new methods and ways to approach different projects from the ones you’ve been doing before. These may expose you to new methods, techniques, innovations that could also help your creativity.
Use the Internet
To boost your creativity, you can also make good use of the internet, search out new trends in your field, interest, industry or work. See how people are doing things differently. A fashion designer could decide to search out styles online, different styles from different fashion designers, check them out, try to figure out the creative instinct behind those things and see how you can add your own touch of creativity to those new trends or styles if you like them. Take advantage of the vastness of the internet to really look up new developments.
Use People’s Complaints
Find out what the complaints of people are around you and see how you can be creative to solve their problems. People’s complaints can serve to guide you into what area you can take advantage of to do something new or get innovative. Be attentive to the dissatisfactions that people may express about a product or a service, that loop hole could just be your own opportunity to be creative, innovative, unique and prospered.
Make Note of Ideas
Don’t waste ideas, pay attention to inspirational and creative ideas as they come. Don’t just let it pass through your mind without writing it on paper, if you don’t write the idea down when it drops, you might likely forget and what if you don’t remember when you are trying to recall after some time. Try to have a book and pen around you so you can jot down the ideas as they come to you.
Work on Your Mind-Set
Set your mind towards improving your creativity. Don’t be satisfied with your present methods, techniques, scope or style. Try to always remind yourself to improve, let that become your mind-set. Putting that in mind as much as possible can continue to drive you towards taking relevant actions to build your creative power. Never get to a stage where you think you should stop being creative, always put in mind to look out for new ways.
