DEFECT DETECTION IN CERAMIC TILES
To improve the quality control process, we proposed a system for detecting defects in ceramic tiles. The accuracy of manually detecting defects is lower due to human errors and the industrial environment. To detect damaged tiles, we proposed an automated technique and methods.
As images are captured in various lighting conditions. We used a technique to remove light from the image, which aids in the detection of cracks with high accuracy. To remove noise from an image, image pre-processing steps are used. Convert the image to a binary representation.
Dilate the image with a vertical line structuring element after reading the binary image. The crack will become bolder as a result of the dilation methodology. The system discovers unwanted objects in addition to the crack as a result of image processing.
To detect only the crack, we use an inbuilt MATLAB function to remove the unwanted objects from the image. After removing unwanted objects, some gaps must be filled. The system detects cracks based on the component to which it is connected. Whether a tile is damaged or not, the system displays text.
And then show the image with a bounding box around the crack. One tile took approximately 2 seconds to process. This exceptional set of results demonstrates that this automated system can effectively replace a manual ceramic tile detection system with greater accuracy and efficiency. The proposed system detects damaged tiles with an 85 percent success rate.
