DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE BUS TICKET RESERVATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

With the rise of e-commerce, the way people buy bus tickets has changed from the days of buying them at the counter in bus terminals. This project is all about studying and developing an online bus ticketing system. It will let staff and customers buy and cancel tickets, postpone or cancel them, rate drivers, generate reports, and more.

It will also help bus ticketing companies run their business better. The rationale for the development and present state of e-ticketing systems are examined and evaluated in this research. Bus riders and drivers alike have several issues that this study seeks to resolve, including, but not limited to, unhealthy working conditions, lengthy ticket purchase lines, and illegal bus operations. In order to ensure the smooth operation of the Online Bus Ticketing System web portal, this project investigates potential implementation challenges and provides suggestions for their resolution. In order to address the needs of the client, this project also suggests a Decision Support System that gives the client trustworthy options from which to choose. A web portal for a prototype Online Bus Ticketing System is being developed as part of this project in order to help achieve the research objective. In the future, this online portal will help the creation of a fully integrated system that connects bus company employees to consumers, other employees, other modes of transportation, enterprises, and government organisations. This research project was developed using the following programming tools: WampServer, MYSQL database, PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery.
