EASY AND EFFICIENT METHOD OF PRODUCING CHEAP AND MORE RELIABLE PERSONAL COMPUTERS

CHAPTER ONE: Introduction

1.0 Background of Study

A computer system is generally defined as a collection of electrical hardware components built together for the goal of performing basic operations with high speed and precision. The computer is made up of two basic parts: hardware and software.

The hardware is the physical portion that can be felt and seen, whereas the software cannot be touched or felt but can be steadily watched. Many people think of a computer as a machine that collects information from the outside world

processes it according to a predetermined set of instructions, and then outputs the processed information in a specific format based on the instructions.

Anigbogu, S.D. (2000) described a computer as an electrical device capable of accepting data and instructions, processing the data based on the instructions, and producing results or output that have yet to be matched by any other machine known to mankind.

According to Chimezie, F.O. (1990), “computers are looked upon as obedient servants who are ever ready to free man from tedious procedures and produce results as compared with human computing time”.

The computer is made up of components that enable accurate functionality. These include the motherboard, CPU, RAM, hard drive, video card, fan, keyboard, and mouse.

1.1 Statement of Problem

With the high cost of branded systems and the prospective increase in demand for computers in various institutions, effective people and skills should be established to build locally compatible computers, which will boost Nigeria’s economic growth.

1.2 Aims and Objectives

Branded systems are expensive to purchase, which denies the common individual the desire to have a working system. This research is intended to give an easy and effective means of making inexpensive and more dependable personal computers for the local market.

1.3 Significance of the Study

Assembling computers locally and selling them to the market at a lower cost will allow the average person to purchase a personal computer, so creating employment opportunities for individuals who are self-employed, resulting in a boost to the country’s economy.

1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This research describes the procedures for making your own personal computer. It will also look at how to create efficient and trustworthy self-made systems.

1.5 Limitations of Study

This work was constrained by time and cost constraints, as these factors were not readily available at the time of need.

1.6 Definition of Terms

SOFTWARE: A programme written by a programmer or a software manufacturer to execute various activities and produce meaningful results.

HARDWARE: Computer hardware is the physical component of a computer that differs from computer software and allows the hardware world to work.

COMPUTER: An advanced electrical device that performs arithmetic and logical tasks by accepting input as data, processing it into information as output, and optionally saving the information for later use.

BOOT: This is the procedure by which a computer starts up till the window loads.

CABLE: This is the wire that connects the computer system to the power source or outlet.

PERIPHERAL: A device or component that is connected to the computer.

FORM FACTOR: The shape of an object, particularly in engineering design.

CONFIGURATION: Form, as determined by the relative arrangement of the components of a thing’s shape; figure; form factor.

CHORD is a cable that connects peripherals to computer ports and sockets.

OPERATING SYSTEM: This is software that manages, controls, and coordinates the data resources and functions of a computer system’s hardware.

ASSEMBLY: The act of assembling several components/parts to work as a unit.
